Research Topic:

SST's Facilities

Chosen Area of Focus:

The Outdoor Facilities in SST and their current uses.

Framing the Research Topic:

Our chosen area of focus is ‘The outdoor facilities in SST and their current uses’. We have chosen this topic because we have free, empty plots of land in our school campus and we would like to find out how we could utilize these empty spaces to their fullest potential in order to provide more facilities to better accommodate and cater to the student body and possibly the staff as well.

Our Research Questions:

1. Are students satisfied with our current complement of outdoor facilities?

2. Are these outdoor facilities eco-friendly?

3. Are more outdoor facilities required?

Reasons for the Choice of Topic:

Facilities in any school help to enrich a student’s learning. If the facilities in SST do not help to enrich the student’s learning, do not educate students via SST’s learning and teaching style, or are unable to educate students to their fullest, it would be a big problem.

SST is a young school, which opened only a short 3 years ago. We are the frontier for a new and different style of learning. In order to prove to the world that SST’s learning and teaching style is the way to go, our students will need every advantage they can get.

Creating new and/or improving the school’s facilities could give us students this vital edge. The effectiveness of SST’s learning and/or teaching style can be enhanced considerably by adding more of these school facilities. We will be giving suggestions of the facilities the school should add and/or improve, as well as why. We will also be suggesting where to build them.

As SST’s indoor facilities have been developed very well and do not need much amending, we have decided to shift our research focus to outdoor facilities, where the scope of our research will be bigger.

Feasibility of the Research:

1. There is a need for our research as it would benefit our school to have more or better facilities in order to better educate or increase our student’s learning. We are after all a pioneer school. To prove that our school’s learning method is better than the current teaching methods, our students are going to need every advantage they can get to prove this point in their education.

2. It is possible to carry out and complete the project.

  1. As there are many students in the school that we can survey and interview, we will be able to gather enough information for our research.
  2. The proposed course of action is logical and realistic as it can be completed with the help of some students who would be willing to do a survey and with our hard work and group effort.
  3. The research provides sufficient opportunity for generation of ideas, as we will constantly have to think of ways to do the next required step in our project.
  4. As for analysis and evaluation of ideas, we will certainly have many opportunities to analyze information and evaluate ideas on how to go about deciding what to do next.

Manageability of the Research:

  1. The Project will be easy to research on as we are students of SST and we have experience with the facilities of the school.
  2. Though as all of us have our own projects to tend to, meeting up and communicating smoothly will be hard for us. We could discuss better and be more productive if we meet up physically at school.

Accessibility of the Information Required:

We would be able to collect data on the student body’s wants and opinions through survey, and we can do research online about the money and manpower required into building different new facilities.
However, find information about the school currently, such as blueprints, might be difficult.

Suggested Outdoor facilities

  1. Observatory
    1. For students to learn(with the assistance of a teacher)about astronomy. Astronomy club can also use it to improve their learning environment
  2. Community vegetable garden
    1. Gives our students a chance to learn how to plant crops, as well as
  3. Students corner
    1. A place where students can voice out their thoughts openly to the SST community at scheduled time-slots
  4. Nature science lab

Places to put the various outdoor facilities
